How to start aria2 with JSON-RPC enabled

To connect this WebUI to your local aria2 engine, run the following command in your terminal or Command Prompt:

aria2c --enable-rpc --rpc-allow-origin-all=true --rpc-secret=YOUR_SECRET --daemon=true

Recommended Guides & Ecosystem Tools

How to connect the WebUI to your aria2 daemon

The WebUI talks to aria2 over JSON-RPC. Enable the RPC server once, then connect from any browser — no installer and no account.

1. Start aria2 with RPC enabled

Run aria2 as a background daemon with a secret token so only you can control it:

aria2c --enable-rpc --rpc-allow-origin-all=true --rpc-secret=YOUR_SECRET --rpc-listen-all=true --daemon=true

2. Enter the connection details

In the panel above, set host localhost, port 6800, and the same secret token, then click Connect.

3. Manage downloads

Add URIs or magnet links, and pause, resume, or remove tasks while watching live speed and ETA.

Security notes

Keep port 6800 private

Never expose the aria2 RPC port to the public internet. Use --rpc-listen-all=true only on a trusted LAN or VPN, always set --rpc-secret, and put a firewall in front if the machine has a public IP.

Ways to connect

Pick the setup that matches where aria2 runs. The WebUI is just a client — it never proxies your traffic.

Connection settings for common setups
Where aria2 runsHostPortNotes
This computer (recommended)localhost6800Default; the daemon must run with --enable-rpc.
A NAS / server on your LANe.g. 192.168.1.506800Requires --rpc-allow-origin-all and a trusted network.
A remote server over the internetyour domain443Use an authenticated HTTPS reverse proxy; never expose 6800 directly.

Tip: the WebUI remembers your host, port and token in this browser's local storage, so you only enter them once.

What you can do here

Monitor

Live download and upload speed, active/waiting/stopped counts, per-task progress, ETA and connection count.

Control

Add URIs or magnet links, set the target folder and split count, then pause, resume or remove tasks.

Batch actions

Pause All, Resume All and Purge Stopped act on the whole daemon in one click.

No install

Pure HTML/JS running in your tab — no extension, no desktop app, nothing to update on the client.

Troubleshooting the connection

The status pill shows "Disconnected (Check Port 6800)"

aria2 is not reachable. Confirm it is running with --enable-rpc, that the host and port are correct, and that the secret matches --rpc-secret. Test the endpoint: curl http://localhost:6800/jsonrpc.

Blocked by "mixed content" on an HTTPS page

A page loaded over HTTPS cannot call a plain http:// RPC endpoint. Reach the daemon through an HTTPS/WSS reverse proxy (or a VPN), then use that URL in the WebUI.

Connected but downloads do not appear

You may be connected to a different aria2 instance, or the token is wrong (aria2 returns an RPC error rather than dropping the connection). Verify the secret and the host.

"Failed to bind socket" in the aria2 log

Port 6800 is already taken by another aria2 instance or app. Stop the other process, or start aria2 with --rpc-listen-port=6801 and enter that port here.

Is it safe to use this over the internet?

Only through a VPN or an authenticated HTTPS reverse proxy. Never publish port 6800 directly — anyone who reaches it controls your downloads.

FAQ

Does this WebUI upload my links or files anywhere?

No. It runs entirely in your browser and talks only to the aria2 daemon you point it at.

Can I add multiple links at once?

Yes — press Add Download and paste one URL or magnet per line.

How do I start aria2 as a background daemon?

aria2c --enable-rpc --rpc-allow-origin-all=true --rpc-secret=YOUR_SECRET --daemon=true. For a permanent service see the Docker guide or run it at login with systemd / Task Scheduler.
